If your garage door is acting up, the question is whether to fix it or replace it. The right answer depends on the age of the door, how many problems it has, and what you want from it.
When a repair makes sense
- A single broken part, such as a spring, cable, roller, or sensor
- A single damaged panel on a door that is otherwise in good shape
- An opener problem that does not involve the door itself
- A door that is newer and still looks good
When a new door is the better choice
- Several panels are dented, cracked, or rusted
- The door has been repaired repeatedly
- Parts for an older door are hard to find
- You want better insulation, a quieter door, or a new look
- The door is not safe, or the sections are sagging or separating
Consider insulation and windows
An insulated door can make an attached garage more comfortable in winter and helps reduce noise. You can also choose windows, carriage-style looks, wood-look finishes, or full-view glass. See our new garage door options.
Do not forget the opener
If you are replacing a door, it is a good time to consider a new opener. We install LiftMaster openers, and each new door we install comes with a 1-year parts and labor warranty against installation issues and manufacturer defects.
