Many camera systems charge a monthly fee just to see your own video. UniFi Protect works differently: the cameras record to a recorder you own, and the core features do not require a subscription.
Local storage
Video records to a UniFi recorder (NVR) on your property. You choose how many days to keep by choosing the drive space. Optional cloud backup services are available if you want an off-site copy, but they are not required.
One network cable per camera
Cameras use PoE (power over Ethernet), which carries power and data over a single cable. That makes for a cleaner install and a more reliable connection than Wi-Fi cameras that depend on a signal and a power outlet.
Smart detections
Supported cameras can tell people, vehicles, and animals apart, so you get alerts that matter. Some models also offer license plate recognition and other AI features.
The app
The UniFi Protect app gives you live view, a scrub-able timeline, and alerts on your phone. A UniFi ViewPort can drive a monitor so you can watch cameras on a screen in an office or shop.
Privacy
Ubiquiti publishes privacy information on its trust center, and your recordings stay on your own equipment. We install UniFi because it is built to be secure and gives you control of your footage.
